Traffic light problems reported on U.S. Route 460

Some commuters in Bluefield, WV had to deal with traffic lights that were not functioning correctly Friday morning.

At the intersection of Cumberland Road and U.S. Route 460, the traffic light signal was blinking since the night before. The city tried to reset the light system several times but the snow and wind prevented the reset from working.

A traffic engineering crew with the West Virginia Department of Highways arrived on scene. The malfunction could be the result of weather or wiring problems.

“Right now, it’s working fine and that’s the problem,” said engineering technician Gerald Terry. “Our control monitor will spit out some code and stuff but still we have to do some tracing to find out what exactly is the problem. Its camera activated at the intersection here now so that could even be a problem. So, we're letting the experts look at it right now."

Terry said detecting the problem's source is key to ensuring the lights remain operational.
