City of Bluefield offers preview of Annual Report

The City of Bluefield will hold their Annual Report tomorrow night at the Arts Center.

2018 could be a big year for Bluefield. The police department will be adding a fourth dog to their K-9 unit. In fact, Sergeant Joey Danieley says Gregor is almost done with his training. "It'll be another dual-purpose dog. It will be a patrol dog. It will be able to apprehend, track and trail, and also help with narcotics. The handler is Patrolman Hawks. The should make a great team, and should be in the road in the next two weeks."
Thanks to a grant, the fire department will be receiving a new defibrillator. The new AED should arrive sometime this spring. But another public service has even bigger plans. Bluefield Area Transit is scheduled to break ground on a new transfer station. Director Patrick McKinney. "We're just real excited about it. It's something that's been in the works for a while. And we finally got everything going."
McKinney describes some of the new amenities. "This new transfer station is going to, you know, give our patrons a place to go; air condition, heat, restrooms... that type of thing."
With snow in the forecast, City Manager Dane Rideout says crews will be working hard to make sure streets are as drivable as possible. He encourages everyone to attend the meeting at 6 pm.
