Snow, cold, and gusty winds Monday night-Tuesday

Winter Weather advisories have been issued for all of counties within the WVVA viewing area through Tuesday morning.

An Arctic cold front will move through our area Monday night, bringing snow showers that may mix with rain at first.

Snow will continue on and off through Monday night and early Tuesday morning, before tapering by Tuesday afternoon.

1-3" of snow will be possible by Tuesday morning. Locally higher amounts of up to 4" cannot be ruled out. Areas east of I-77 will see less, around a trace to 1.0" of snow accumulation. North of the I-64 corridor, Western Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties could see 2-4", with isolated higher amounts of up to 5" or so around Snowshoe, WV.

Temperatures will drop rapidly Monday night, into the teens. Flash freezing of wet roads due to the warmer temperatures we saw on Monday will also be possible. Drive with extreme caution! Windy conditions are also expected with gusts up to 40mph possible.  The wind and cold air temperatures will create wind chill values near zero at times.

Drier conditions will move in Tuesday night and Wednesday.  Temperatures will rebound into the 40s on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of a cold front.  Rain showers are likely late Thursday and will likely transition over to snow showers Thursday night and Friday as a disturbance rides along a cold front that will be moving through the area.  This may bring more accumulating snow to our region by Friday morning.
