MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

A multi-city police chase ends in a crash and the arrest of a couple.

Chief Parks with the Mercer County Sheriff's department says the chase started in Princeton when an officer with the Princeton Police Department attempted to pull over a blue sedan for a traffic violation.

The male driver of the car refused to stop and continued to travel into Bluefield.

West Virginia State Police, Princeton Police Department, Bluefield Police Department, and the Mercer County Sheriff's Department were all involved in the pursuit.

The chase ended when the driver turned off headlights and attempted to make a hard left hand turn onto Grassy Branch Road and crashed into the guardrail on Princeton Avenue.

According to the criminal complaint, at one point the vehicle was traveling 130 mph in a 35 mph zone. It was estimated it was going around 70 miles an hour when he crashed. A firearm was also located in the vehicle.

Ricky Poole, the driver of the car, and the female passenger, who has not yet been identified, where both arrested and taken into custody.

Poole was charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and obstructing an officer.
