New bishop installed at Catholic Diocese of Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Catholic Diocese of Richmond has a new bishop.
Barry C. Knestout was installed as the 13th bishop of the diocese in a special liturgy at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
According to a press release from the diocese, the 55-year-old Knestout is a native of Bowie, Maryland. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Washington in 1989.
His installation comes nearly five months after the death of the diocese's 12th bishop, Francis X. DiLorenzo.
The Diocese of Richmond has more than 220,000 registered Catholics and covers more than 33,000 square miles, stretching from the Eastern Shore to southwest Virginia and as far north as Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley.
