UPDATE: 7 charged following fatal Giles County shooting

GILES COUNTY, VA (WVVA) -

One man is dead and another is hospitalized after a shooting reported in Giles County.

According to the Giles County Sheriff's Office, the call came in around 1 a.m. Wednesday regarding two men who had suffered gunshot wounds. The two men were driven to the Bank of Peterstown in Narrows. 

One man, Dakota Ryan Bailey, 20, of Narrows was pronounced dead on scene. David Joseph Cecil, 47, also of Narrows, was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. 

Investigators say the shooting took place at a residence on Stockpen Mountain Road during an attempted armed robbery. Warrants have been obtained against six people in connection with the attempted robbery.

  2. Tyler Lee Foster, 18 years old, of Narrows (breaking and entering and attempted armed robbery)
  3. Darren Justin Cecil, 18 years old, of Narrows (breaking and entering and attempted armed robbery)
  4. Blade Donovan Powers, 19 years old, of Wytheville (breaking and entering and attempted armed robbery)
  5. Megan Kaylee Shaver, 18 years old, of Lynchburg (conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit armed robbery)
  6. Lindsey Paige Robertson, 20 years old, of Pearisburg (conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit armed robbery)

The man who lived in the home on Stockpen Mountain Road, Anthony Dewayne Gautier, 31, has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

All suspects are now in custody. 

The investigation is ongoing. 


Deputies in Giles County are investigating an overnight shooting that left one person dead.

The shooting took place in the Narrows area. According to NBC affiliate WSLS, the incident started at a residence on Stockpen Mountain and ended in front of a bank in Narrows.

According to the Giles County Sheriff's Office, one unidentified person died during the shooting and another was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

No other details are know. However, investigators say there doesn't appear to be any threat to public safety.
