Man killed at Fayette County mine

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

Mine safety officials in West Virginia are investigating a mining fatality in Fayette County.

According to Samantha Smith with the WV Dept. of Commerce, the fatal incident occurred at shortly before 1 a.m. Friday at the Revelation Energy, LLC, Revelation S7 mine. 

Preliminary reports indicate the worker, a dozer operator at the mine, "traveled over a high wall." 

The victim has been identified as Thurman A. Watts, 34, of Harts, WV.

Inspectors with the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety & Training are handling the investigation. 

“All of West Virginia is heartbroken to learn of the loss of Thurman A. Watts today," said U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin. "Yet again, we are reminded of the incredible sacrifices our coal miners and their families make every day. Gayle and I join the entire state in sending our thoughts and prayers to the Watts family during this difficult time.”  

"I'm very saddened to learn of the death of one of West Virginia's coal miners, Thurman Watts of Harts," said U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins."Please join me in praying for his family and fellow miners on this sad day."
