West Virginia town reveals hotel project at vacant hospital

MILTON, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia town has announced plans to transform a vacant hospital into a hotel.

Media outlets report the town of Milton has entered into a public/private partnership with Jeff and Patricia Hoops to develop and rehabilitate Morris Memorial Hospital and the 189-acre property around it.

Town officials say preliminary plans include a 100-room hotel, with extended-stay suites, a grand ballroom and conference center, a 250-seat wedding chapel, a medical clinic and rehab center, horse stables and trails, a par-3 nine-hole golf course and townhouses.

Rodney Pell, the town's director of planning and development, says the property features the 88,000-square-foot vacant hospital that was built in 1936. The town says the building will become the new hotel.

The hospital has been vacant since 2009.
