MONROE COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

The War is coming to Union. There will be a Civil War Reenactment this weekend, August 25th-27th to celebrate the history of not only the Civil War but the town as well.

The portrayal will showcase the 1864 campaign of the Union General Crook. He led forces through Union on a Sunday morning after his victory at Cloyd's Mountain, Virginia.

The 10,000 men, 200 wagons, and more than 100 African Americans of Crook's army spread out for miles to camp and forage. This opportunity will be a lesson for all to know the history of Union during the Civil War.

"I think it's important to know about the war and the total effect it had on the country and of course, it helped us move past the period of slavery and into the modern era," said President of the Monroe County Historical Society, Fred Ziegler.

The reenactment will begin with a reading at 7 PM on Friday, followed by a Night fire demonstration at 9 PM, and then on Saturday the skirmish begins at 10 AM.
