Jays offense explodes in win over Princeton


Saturday night the Princeton Rays earned their second win of the Mercer Cup series with a 2-1 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays. On Sunday afternoon, the Blue Jays got their revenge and picked up a 12-8 win over the Rays.

The Rays scored the first run of the game on a Zach Rutherford solo home run in the first inning. The Jays then scored 12 unanswered runs taking a big 12-1 lead after the top of the 6th inning. The Rays then responded with a six run inning of their own in the bottom of the sixth. 

Despite the Rays tacking on more run in the 7th, the Jays managed to hold on for their seventh win in the series.

Freddy Rodriguez went 1-4 with a home run and three RBI's. Yorman Rodriguez went 3-5 with two RBI's. Starting pitcher Maximo Castillo improved to 5-0 on the season with the win.

Zach Rutherford went 2-5 with two home runs and four RBI's in the loss for the Rays. 

The two teams meet tomorrow night in Princeton for the game three of the four game series tomorrow night at 7:00.
