Motorcycle club holds charity ride for "Shop with a Deputy" Program

An inaugural charity motorcycle ride to benefit the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department's "Shop with a Deputy" program took riders on a scenic three hour tour through West Virginia.

A local chapter of the Punisher's Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club met to raise money to ensure kids in need have a Christmas worth remembering.

“Give them $100 each,” deputy Justin Johnson said. “$50 of it to spend on clothes, $50 to spend on toys at the MacArthur Walmart in December."

For Dep. Justin Johnson, "Shop with a Deputy" is a chance to give back to the community, but also a way to help provide a positive interaction with the kids.

"It let's them spend a little time with us,” Johnson said. “They have a positive encounter with police officers and that way if they're lost or something, they can come and get us and we can help them, and it just helps build the community."

It's Dep. Christine Schack's third year with the program. She says each $100 raised is just one more smile on a child's face.

"A lot of them want to be police officers,” Schack said. “That's real exciting to hear them say. A lot of them want to buy police kits maybe be a police officer for Halloween, so it's really cool."

And after the three hour ride, the group returned to Calacino's for an all-you-can eat pizza buffet for just $10.

Proceeds went toward the "Shop with a Deputy” program.
