After a 2-8 season in 2016, Montcalm has gotten a negative reputation.  One they are wanting to change this year. "Its been pretty rough.  Last year we only won 2 games.  Came out with a 2 point loss and a 6 point loss.  Hopefully we can come out with some more wins" said senior Dakota Parnell.

Things could be different this year for the Generals.  They return 9 seniors, all with 3 years of more starting experience.  Giving them a big advantage. "These seniors have worked pretty hard in the weight room and they are a bit bigger than what we are used to.  We are going to compete and do the best we can" said head coach Jimmy Redmond.

Montcalm will have plenty of talent and depth on offense led by the Parnell twins and a host of others who are ready to turn things around. "Since we are freshman we've never had a big team so we've all been playing a lot since our freshman year.  We all know what's going on in the game and everything.  We will be alright on experience this year" said senior Jared Parnell.

One of the biggest strengths of this team will be on the offensive and defensive lines.  Who have taken their lumps over the past couple years. "They got pushed around a little bit but now they are bigger so hopefully we'll have some more success up front" said Redmond.

The Generals have a lot in place to make a run at the playoffs, and they hope 2017 is their time to shine. "That would be so nice to make the playoffs, it hasn't been done in awhile.  Hopefully we go out and get enough wins to make it happen and show what we are made of" said Dakota Parnell.

For a number of years, tickets for the Bluefield Blue Jays and the Princeton Rays were honored at both stadiums. This allowed fans to watch some Mercer County baseball, even if their hometown team was on the road. That deal, however, is not in place this summer.
