Mayor Russell has big plans for Princeton

The city of Princeton has a new mayor, but this isn't his first time in the position. Dewey Russell is filling the role for a fourth time now. So what are some of the plans that he has in mind for the city?

What you may not know is that the actual size of Princeton is roughly 5-square-miles. That's why Mayor Dewey Russell says annexation is something he and the city council will definitely be looking at. "It gives you a... obviously a larger tax base."
Currently, Sheetz and the Four Seasons Pharmacy are NOT in Princeton's city limits, even though they sit right across the street from the municipal building. However, as Russell points out, the city can't force its will on any business or residence. It must be requested. "When they request it, they still have to have a majority of the people (in agreement). But it becomes pretty simple then. It's just a boundary adjustment."
Russell admits that prostitution along Mercer Street is still a problem. But, he says it's not near as big as it used to be. "I wish it was just a connotation, but it's for real. But, it is much better, much better. Our police department, they have been... they work diligently."
Earlier this year, officials with the city and The Dean Company began discussing the transfer in ownership of the old warehouse on Bee Street over to the city. Princeton would then transform the structure into their new municipal building. Russell says finalizing that deal is tops on his agenda. "You know, I hope in the next six months... we're going to put something together. Now the whole process, and a lot of pieces, have to come together."
