Young and old alike compete at fiddle contest

The air was filled with the sounds of bluegrass and gospel at day two of the "Old Time & Bluegrass Fiddlers' Convention" in Tazewell. This year marks the 15th edition of the event held at the Crab Orchard Museum. Not only were contests being held for fiddle players, but for mandolin, bass, harmonica, and guitar players as well. The competitions weren't only for the adults, though.

There were also youth competitions. Madalyn Jarrett was one of those contestants. Though she's only nine, she says she's been fiddling for six years. When asked how hard or easy it is to play the fiddle, she responded, "It's a little hard at first, then it gets easier as it goes."

The youth competition was held on Saturday morning, and Madalyn says she finished in third place. The event concluded on Sunday with a gospel sing and service at 10 am.
