Vicars in place at Summers Co

Hinton, WV

A familiar face to many around southern West Virginia high school football, Chris Vicars will be roaming a new sideline in 2017.  In January, Vicars resigned from his post at Independence and in June was named the new coach at Summers County, a place he knows quite well.  "I lived in this community for five years, so I know a lot of these kids. Once I made the decision that I could handle both coaching and my administrative duties, it was an easy decision and I've had a ton of support from the community and the kids here."

He replaces Nate Tanner, who led the Bobcats to the playoffs in 2016 and Vicars says he like what pieces are already assembled.  "They know how to win number one. We played them every year when I was at Independence and certainly we're still playing Independence. I've seen these guys and know what we had to prepare for there, so I know that they are a talented group of kids."

A handful of weeks away from the official start of fall camp, Vicars hopes to have his team and personnel in top shape come August.  "Getting to know the players, what they can do, what they're good at, what they may not be as good as, getting to know the coaches, you know a little bit better and what they're strengths are and so that's a big part right now so that we're ready to go."
