Fatality reported at Wyoming County mine

Mine safety officials now confirm a coal miner had died at a Wyoming County mine.

The "fatal incident" occurred around 11:18 p.m. Thursday at Pinnacle Mining Co. LLC #50 Mine in Wyoming County.

Luches Rosser, 44, of Mann, WV was killed in the incident. According to Samantha Smith with the West Virginia Dept. of Commerce, Rosser was operating shuttle car at the time.

"It's never easy to see someone so young leave us and it breaks my heart when West Virginia loses a member of the coal community," said Gov. Jim Justice.

The mine has been idled and inspectors from the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training have started the investigation.

According to the Associated Press, Rosser was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local (UMWA) #1713. Union representatives are also at the mine. We understand they are actively participating in the investigation.

"Today we are reminded of the unimaginable sacrifices our coal miners and their families make. Gayle and I join all West Virginians in sending our thoughts and prayers to the Rosser family," said U. S. Senator Joe Manchin.

Rosser's death is the fourth mining fatality this year in West Virginia. The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) reports a total of seven mining fatalities nationwide.
