Multiple arrests made in McDowell County drug roundup

Officers in McDowell County arrest at least seven people on drug trafficking charges during a warrant sweep on Thursday.

Members of the McDowell County Sheriff's Office and Southern Regional Violent Crime and Drug Task Force participated in the drug roundup. Officers are still looking for three suspects. 

Below is a list of those arrested and the charges they face:

  1. Erick Scotty Viars W/M 01-02-1972 of Jolo, WV charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Felony conspiracy (cocaine) arraigned before Magistrate Richard VanDyke and a bond of $30,000 was set
  2. Keisha Rife W/F 07-17-1978 of Jolo, WV charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Felony conspiracy (cocaine) arraigned before Magistrate Richard VanDyke and a bond of $30,000 was set
  3. Donna Rife W/F 10-07-1953 of Jolo, WV Charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of felony conspiracy (oxycodone) arraigned before Magistrate Daniel Mitchell and a bond of $60,000
  4. Keoyna Smith B/M 10-24-1991 of Maybeury, WV Charged with delivery of a controlled substance (Crack cocaine) arraigned before magistrate Richard VanDyke and a bond of $25,000 was set
  5. Charles Hill B/M 04-30-1960 Keystone, WV charged with delivery of a controlled substance (Crack Cocaine) arraigned before magistrate Danial Mitchell and a bond of $25,000 was set
  6. Roy Williams W/M 03-28-1971 of Jolo, WV charged with delivery of a controlled substance (Cocaine) he is currently in Southwestern Regional Jail and was video arraigned by Magistrate Richard VanDyke and a bond of $50,000 was set.
  7. Matthew Dickerson B/M 06-21-1991 from Kyle, WV charged with 4 counts of delivery of a controlled substance (crack Cocaine) arraigned before Magistrate Daniel Mitchell and a bond of $100,000 was set

    According to a press release by the Beckley Police Department, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice was involved in a vehicle accident Saturday afternoon.  The press release says that patrolman Logan Christian responded to a traffic accident on Harper Road at the intersection of Hylton Lane.  West Virginia state troopers with the Governor's security detail were on scene as well.  It was determined that the driver of the second car, 20-year old Joshua Lucas, failed to m...

    Bluefield leader laid to rest

    The Mercer County community was saddened on Saturday morning as Charles Peters, a longtime leader of Bluefield, was put to rest.  Charles was a major force in the coal industry for six decades. He also helped baseball rise in Bluefield and he aided everything from the Mercer County Airport to the local boy scouts.  Charles also was a veteran. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a sergeant and a squad leader that fought in German towns of the Ardennes Forest t...More >>

    Heavy rainfall causes flooding in Tazewell

    Saturday morning, flash flooding hit Tazewell County in a big way.  Heavy rain produced by slow moving thunderstorms closed roads, flooded homes and even lead to some rescues.  WVVA's own chief meteorologist Travis Roberts witnessed the flooding first-hand, and said that it was some of the worst flooding he had ever seen in that area.  Other residents reported basements and homes flooded with washed out driveways via social media.
