TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA (WVVA) -

Police say a cyclist was on his way to Charlottesville, Virginia when he was stuck and killed in a hit-and-run incident in Tazewell County.

David Earl Christensen, 54, of Burley, Idaho was pronounced dead at the scene.  According to Commonwealth Attorney Michael Lee Dennis, Christensen was traveling in the northbound lane on Route 19 in the Wardell section when he was struck by a vehicle. It happened sometime after midnight on Thursday. 

Investigators are asking for the public's help in finding the driver responsible. They believe the vehicle involved is a 2011-2016 Ford F250 or larger vehicle with significant damage to the front and passenger side.

Police said a cyclist was killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Tazewell County.

According to the Virginia State Police, the crash happened at 6:12 a.m. Thursday on U.S. Route 19 near Claypool Hill.

A bicyclist was traveling northbound on Route 19 near Route 609 when he was struck from behind. The striking vehicle fled the scene without stopping. - Susan Rowland, VSP

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a bicyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle Thursday morning in Tazewell County.

It happened around 7:00 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of U.S Route 19 near Claypool Hill.

The Virginia State Police is handling the investigation. Look for more information as it becomes available
