Cold case billboard shines light on missing Raleigh Co. man

Posted:
RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

528 days: that's how long one Raleigh County man has been missing and how long one mother has been searching...

But thanks to the help of Crime Stoppers and a new administration in the sheriff's department, cold cases like this one are receiving more attention.

A face not seen since December of 2015, will now be seen by thousands of people every day.

"I saw it for the first time on Thursday,” Leisa Wellington said. “It was really hard. It's so life like, it looks like he would just start talking to me at any moment."

A billboard near Crab Orchard, showing the smiling face of Chaz Richardson, now reminds those who see it of a mother's anguish and a communities relentless quest to uncover the truth behind his disappearance.

Wellington is Chaz's mother.

“Losing a child, especially losing one and not knowing where they are, for 528 days and not being able to do anything about it, it's really tough,” Welllington said.

"Now that we have the new administration in, it's like we're all coming together and we're putting all the leads that we get, and we're working together to get to the truth,” family friend Brandy Stover said.

Those closest to the effort of the search for Chaz Richardson say Raleigh County Sheriff Scott Van Meter, along with Crime Stoppers have breathed new life into the investigation.

New leads are coming in and the trail is getting warmer.

"Everyday we talk we look we search, we follow leads, we're never going to stop until we bring him home to rest,” Wellington said. “Because I know Chaz is gone, he's not here, but i still want to find him and bring him home and be able to give his daughters the answers, because they surely don't deserve to grow up wondering where there daddy's gone."

Stover would also like to thank the Bolt Mountain Church of God for allowing the use of it's facility to hold a “Knickerbockers Portrait” fundraiser to help raise money for the family and Crime Stoppers.

The photo session will take place at the church on June 23rd and 24th. If you'd like more information, you can call Stover at 304.894.6591.

She says for you can get around two dozen prints for just $10. Proceeds go to help out the family and Crime Stoppers.

If you have any information regarding Chaz Richardson's disappearance, you can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 304-255-STOP.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered to tips that lead up to an arrest.
