McDowell County murder suspect a 'person of interest' in other unsolved killings

WELCH (WVVA) Two days after a mother and son were shot in their Iaeger home Sunday, West Virginia State Police tell WVVA News that the prime suspect in the shooting, Michael Kennedy, 32, may be connected to more unsolved murders.

Jessica Daughtery, the mother in Sunday morning's shooting, continues to fight for her life in a Kentucky hospital. Her son, Jeremy, 16, was killed in the home he shared with his mom on Coon Branch Road.

According to the lead investigator on the case, State Trooper R.W. Justus, troopers are now exploring the possibility of Kennedy's involvement in other unsolved murders, working closely with investigators in both McDowell and Wyoming counties.

"He's definitely a person of interest, but at this point, I can't comment on any of the details," said Trooper Justus on Tuesday at the State Police Detachment in Welch.

In the meantime, Trooper Justus said Kennedy's charges in connection to Sunday morning's shooting will be presented to the Grand Jury for a decision on whether they case will be sent to McDowell County Circuit Court.

Kennedy is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail as he awaits a bond hearing in McDowell County Circuit Court.
