Residents displaced after fire in the city of War

Several families in War have been displaced and are taking refuge in other places.

After a fire started at the abandoned War hotel around 3:30AM. It spread to a nearby apartment building with five families inside.

Fire Chief Matthew Dash said when crews arrived on scene the fire was pretty sizable. Eight crews were called in to help put it out.

Connie Seigel is one of those who lived in apartment. She had two knee replacements and said if she wasn't on the bottom floor she's not sure she would have made it out.

“About 3:30am, the neighbors kept slamming the door, and I got up to tell them that was enough and one of the girls was running up and down the street yelling 'fire, fire,'” said Seigel.

Fire officials say what caused the fire is still under investigation. Seigel says if everything is gone she doesn't know what she'll do next.

“I don't know because i lost everything. I didn't have much to begin with but now i don't have anything.”
