First responders are helping to remove students stranded at Summers County High School.

The number of students involved is not known. Officials say they are part of an athletic team or two. It appears the students are beside the high school. Crews from multiple fire departments are working to rescue the students and staff. Witnesses tell WVVA some members of the girls varsity basketball team, cheerleaders, football players, and some coaches are there. There is flooding inside the high school.

Dispatchers tell WVVA a section of Route 20 is closed from Sandstone to Hinton. They have received a number of calls concerning washed out roads and standing water.
