CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia will host the 2019 U.S. Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships and the 2019 and 2020 Eastern Presidents Cup. Gov. Jim Justice announced the selection Friday and said the three tournaments are expected to generate economic benefit of an estimated $32 million. The games will be played at Barboursville Soccer Complex in Cabell County and Shawnee Park Sports Complex in Kanawha County.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Candidates in West Virginia's May 8th primary are hoping for the chance to earn their party's nominations for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House or the Legislature. Democratic U.S. Senator Joe Manchin faces a primary challenge from Paula Jean Swearengin. The Republican Senate primary has six candidates, including 3rd District Congressman Evan Jenkins, state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and convicted former Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship.

IVYDALE, W.Va. (AP) - A disaster response group says it has completed its 50th private bridge in West Virginia as part of a rebuilding project after severe flooding in recent years. The West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, or VOAD, and its partners celebrated the milestone Thursday in the Clay County community of Ivydale. The organization says the dedication was for a family whose access bridge was destroyed in June 2016. The wooden bridges are for families who can't replace them on their own.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A pharmaceuticals company has laid off 15 percent of its workforce at a West Virginia manufacturing facility. Mylan Pharmaceuticals released a statement Friday saying the "right-sizing" is consistent with discussions with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to continue operations. Around 500 positions have been cut.
