HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - The Cabell County Sheriff's Department has been given a $125,000 federal grant for an additional sheriff's deputy. U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins announced the award from the Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Records and photographs from the papers of former U.S. Rep. Nick Joe Rahall II have been opened for research at West Virginia University Libraries' West Virginia & Regional History Center. Rahall won the 1976 contest for West Virginia's Fourth Congressional District seat and was re-elected 18 times.

HERALD, W.Va. (AP) - A half a century after serving in Vietnam, hundreds of veterans have a reason to believe they may be dying from a silent bullet. Test results show some men may have been infected by a slow-killing parasite while fighting in Southeast Asia. The Department of Veterans Affairs had commissioned a pilot study to look into the link between liver flukes ingested through raw or undercooked fish and a rare bile duct cancer.

PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) - A 20-year-old West Virginia man faces two years in prison following his guilty plea to wanton endangerment for shooting two females, leaving one paralyzed. The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports the plea bargain for Donovan Thomas, of Bluefield, was presented Monday with a two-year cap on the prison sentence.
