MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Police in West Virginia say a Maryland motorist has been charged in the fatal hit-and-run of a man on a bicycle. Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston says 39-year-old Ladon Garrett of Randallstown, Maryland, surrendered to detectives Monday. Preston says 20-year-old Divante Coles of Morgantown was killed July 6 on state Route 7 when he was struck from behind by a vehicle, which left the scene.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia man has admitted to sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl aboard a cruise ship in the Bahamas. Twenty-one-year-old Joshua I. Morrison of Kenova pleaded guilty Monday to sexual abuse of a minor. Prosecutors say the abuse occurred in January 2016 in a cruise ship bathroom. Morrison faces up to 15 years in prison. Sentencing has been set for Oct. 11 in federal court in Charleston.

MASONTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Police in West Virginia say the body of a Maryland man has been found in the Cheat River. News outlets report the body of 26-year-old Derek Noah Bennett of Cresaptown, Maryland, was recovered Saturday in the Bull Run area of Preston County. Sheriff's deputies say Bennett had been swimming in the river, went under the surface and did not reappear.

SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say a train in West Virginia fatally struck a man who was walking on railroad tracks while listening to music with his earbuds. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that 23-year-old Tyler Blake Smith was also carrying a skateboard while walking on the tracks Sunday night.
