CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty Virginia police officer was killed when he was hit by a car while crossing the street. Officials tell local news media outlets that 45-year-old Eddie Ufret died Saturday after he was struck while crossing the street with friends. Ufret had worked for the police department since 2014 and was off duty when he was hit. News outlets report that the driver, William Johnson, has been charged with driving under the influence involuntary manslaughter.

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Republican whips heard from a special caller at their meeting Monday night _ Majority Whip Steve Scalise. The Louisiana Republican is recovering from a gunshot wound at a Washington hospital. He phoned in to thank everyone for their hard work and tell them he looked forward to working through his recovery.

NEW YORK (AP) - Health officials say norovirus was likely the cause of the reported illnesses that temporarily shut a Chipotle last week. The store reopened after sanitization last Wednesday and officials say they're not aware of any customers becoming ill since then. They say 135 individuals have reported becoming ill. Norovirus is a leading cause of illnesses from contaminated food.
