2 Russell County students charged after gun found at school

LEBANON, Va. (AP) - Two Russell County students face charges after a weapon - that belonged to a county school board member - was found on school property.

Prosecutor Brian Patton tells news outlets the incident happened Feb. 2.

The firearm was a .22 caliber pistol that belonged to Russell County School Board member Charles Collins. The students from Russell County Career and Tech Center found it in Collins' personal vehicle, which had been brought in to be worked on.

Patton says the students handled the gun and pointed it at another student.

The students are charged with possession of a firearm on school property.

The person who drove Collins' vehicle to the school didn't know about the firearm and wasn't charged. Collins wasn't charged since he didn't bring the firearm onto school property.
