The preliminary hearing is held for a suspect accused of gunning down a man outside a Bluefield nightclub.

Steven Williams, 22, of Bluefield, WV is charged with the first degree murder of Dexter Mitchell, 34, also from Bluefield.

Mitchell was shot to death around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 30. It happened just outside Kelsey's nightclub in the parking lot of  the Quality Inn off of U.S. Route 460. According to court documents, Mitchell was shot a multiple times at close range; including wounds to the head, back chest, and shoulders.

Detective K.L. Adams with the Bluefield, WV Police Dept. testified during the preliminary hearing. The victim's wife, Shenella Mitchell also took the stand. She was with her husband the night he was shot dead. During her testimony, she got up from the stand, quickly hopped in front of Williams and began screaming "I hate you, die" multiple times. Officers in the packed courtroom were able to calm her down. Magistrate Sandra Dorsey cleared the courtroom. Shenella Mitchell later made an apology to Magistrate Dorsey for her outburst. A WVVA photojournalist captured the incident on camera.

Magistrate Dorsey found probable cause to send the case to the grand jury. The hearing was held on Friday in Princeton.
