Record-breaking travel during holiday season

(WVVA) AAA is calling this holiday season a record-breaking year.

More than 100 million people will be traveling for the holidays, and more than 90 percent of those travelers will be hitting the roads.

The holiday season has already been unusual for travel because of the weather, but AAA staff say it's the low gas prices that are getting so many people out on the roads.

"Gas prices are definitely helping with this increase in auto travel. Nationally, we are seeing gas prices below $2 per gallon. We've seen low gas prices all year so that's increased the disposable income and families are putting that back in their tanks and traveling this year," says Autumn Bess, with AAA.

AAA estimates that cheaper gas prices have saved Americans more than $100 billion on gasoline so far this year.
