UPDATE: WV State Police release identity of man killed in officer-involved shooting

UPDATE: West Virginia State Police confirm Mark Toney died after an officer-involved shooting in Mount Hope.

Lieutenant Michael Baylous with the West Virginia State Police confirms to WVVA News that two people were taken to the hospital and one person is dead after an officer-involved police shooting in Mount Hope.  State Police are investigating.

State Police in Fayette County also confirm that investigating officers are en route to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Charleston Tuesday morning.

According to Rhondell Lawson, a friend of the family involved in the incident, an officer shot a man at a home on MacDonald Loop in Mount Hope just after 11:30 Monday night.

Lawson claims that her friend and the man in question had been in a fight where the woman and the man's stepfather had been stabbed. She says that when police arrived on scene, the man reportedly pointed a gun at police. That's when she says officers shot and killed the man.

Right now, Rhondell says the woman has been released from the hospital, and the child has been taken into the custody of Child Protective Services.
