Police warn residents of postal scam in Greenbrier County

The West Virginia State Police are investigating a postal service scam in Ronceverte.

Troopers say three different people have impersonated an area mail carrier. The first incident happened Tuesday evening in the parking lot of a grocery store in Fairlea. The impersonator targeted a Ronceverte resident and said she was his carrier, by name. She is described as 5'1" tall with blonde hair and gray roots. Troopers say she asked the man for $50 to help her sick grandson.

The next incident also happened at the same store. A man was approached by who he thought was his mail carrier. She asked him to borrow $120 to help her sick relative. This impersonator was described as a tall woman with brown hair.

Another victim was approached at a fast food restaurant in Fairlea by a third woman impersonating another mail carrier.

Postal service employees are asking residents to report any incidents like these to the postal service and police.
