MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) A convicted murderer out on parole was sentenced on Wednesday for shooting his former girlfriend.

According to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John McGinnis, George Street, 37, of Bluefield received 2-10 years in prison (malicious wounding) for shooting Abril Mott in the head back in March. He was given an additional year for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Circuit Court Judge Derek Swope also sentenced Street to life in prison with mercy for violating parole. All three sentences will run consecutively.

"He will spend a significant number of years in prison before he is eligible for parole again," says McGinnis.

The plea agreement and sentencing was approved by the victim and the investigating officer according to McGinnis. He says Mott has since recovered from her injury.

The shooting happened in March 2015 at a residence on North Street in Bluefield. Click here to read the original report.

Street was paroled in 2014 after spending 15 years in prison for first degree murder.
