Tractor trailer crash causes major delays on I-77 in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) Drivers can expect delays on Interstate 77 after a tractor trailer crash in Mercer County.

The wreck happened around 8 a.m. Wednesday near exit 7 in the southbound lanes. 

According to police, the driver tried to pass another vehicle, went off the highway, and flipped. No injured were reported. The big rig was carrying a load of carrots.

 On Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at approximately 8:05 hours, Sgt. D. W. Miller of the Princeton Detachment was dispatched by Mercer County 911 to the 7 mile marker of I-77 South reference a overturned tractor trailer. Sgt. Miller arrived on scene and found the truck on it's side. The truck was occupied by husband and wife driving team. The wife was driving and had passed another truck. When she returned to the right lane the truck ran off the eastern roadway edge. When the driver of the truck corrected to bring the truck back into the roadway it caused the load to shift. This chain of events caused the vehicle to overturn. Neither of the occupants were injured. The tractor trailer was loaded with 80,000 pounds of carrots. The contents of the trailer will need to be off loaded before the trailer can be pulled upright onto it's wheels.
