CHARLESTON, WV (WVVA) -

A former West Virginia State Trooper is headed to federal prison for distribution of oxymorphone.

Christopher Lee Saunders, 43, of Beckley, is sentenced on Wednesday in Charleston to two years and six months in federal prison after pleading guilty in June.

According to a press release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin's office, the former trooper admitted to selling oxymorphone to a confidential informant on January 22, 2015.  The two met at the Walmart parking lot on Robert C. Byrd Drive in MacArthur.

Goodwin's office says the case was investigated by state police.
