WV Higher Ed. Policy Commission’s Allied Health Wing coming soon

Bluefield—   The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house to commemorate the establishment of new WV Higher Education Policy Commission’s “Allied Health Wing” at New River Community and Technical College’s Beaver campus, adjacent to the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center.  The open house begins at 3 pm, December 3 and continues until 5:30 pm.

Community residents, prospective students and families, and members of the health care community will have the opportunity to view the Allied Health Wing’s state of the art nursing and radiologic technology laboratories, which serve the needs of Bluefield State College’s Allied Health students.  The “Wing” also features modern classroom space that incorporates a variety of technologies in the instruction of support courses taught by New River Community and Technical College, Bluefield State College, and Concord Universities.  Conferencing areas and shared faculty workplaces complete the functional, versatile facility.

“The Allied Health Wing is an outstanding educational resource and collaborative partnership with Bluefield State College and Concord University. Students are able to learn valuable skills, earn their two-year or four-year degree, and find employment as health care professionals,” said Dr. L. Marshall Washington, President of New River Community and Technical College.

Lisa Moten, Director of the Allied Health Wing, observed, “The collaboration that exists between these institutions is yet another example of sharing facilities to meet the existing need for more health care workers in Southern West Virginia.”

“The laboratories in the Allied Health Wing provide an essential component of our students’ educational preparation,” noted Dr. Angela Lambert, Dean/BSC School of Nursing and Allied Health.  “We are grateful to the Policy Commission for its support and funding, which have helped to make this facility a reality.  The Allied Health Wing and the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center provide BSC students in Raleigh and surrounding counties an invaluable opportunity to receive quality higher education in a significant range academic areas.”
