Student found with handgun at Mercer County high school


MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) A trooper with the West Virginia State Police is called out to Bluefield High School on Wednesday after a student is found with a gun. 

According to Lieutenant Michael Baylous, school personnel discovered a female student was in possession of a handgun after an altercation with another student. Baylous says the handgun was not loaded.

Sergeant D. W. Miller placed the female student in custody and took her to Mercer County Circuit Court. Judge William Sadler ordered the student detained at a juvenile detention center until a hearing can be held on the matter.

PRINCETON, WV, November 5, 2015: Mercer County Schools confirms there was an incident involving a weapon yesterday at Bluefield High School. To ensure the safety of students and teachers, the administrative staff of Bluefield High School dealt with the situation immediately, and the state police were called.
The Mercer County Board of Education will address the incident in accordance with WV Board Policy §18A-5-1.
