Concord University Choir to host "Messiah" concert

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Choirs will present a performance of G. F. Handel’s “Messiah” on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.  This masterwork, written for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, includes several familiar numbers, including the much-loved “Hallelujah Chorus.” The performance will take place in the Alexander Fine Arts Center Main Auditorium on the Athens campus, and is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.

The concert will be performed by the two Concord University choirs:  the Collegiate Singers and the ConChords, along with members of the community and faculty. Performing with the choirs will be a chamber orchestra and soloists Jordan Stadvec, a 2012 Concord graduate, soprano; Wayne Kompelien, baritone; and Brian Thorsett, tenor.

The choirs are conducted by Dr. Kelly Hudson, Asst. Professor of Music, and accompanied by music faculty member Dr. Jacob Womack.

Dr. Hudson explains, “‘Messiah’ is a classic that a lot of people know and it is a favorite around the holidays.”

She continues by saying she “wanted to do something that would involve the community, and many community members have sung this before.”  Dr. Hudson wants the concert to be a way to bring people to campus to see and experience the work that is done at Concord.

There is no admission charge for the concert and the community is invited and encouraged to attend.

For additional information, please contact Dr. Kelly Hudson at or 304-384-5301.
