Verdict reached in Bluefield bank robbery trial

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) -

It didn't take long for a jury to find a bank robbery suspect guilty of first degree robbery.

Nathaniel Showalter, 21, was on trial in Mercer County for the June 2014 robbery of the First Community Bank on Federal Street in Bluefield, WV. 

Jury deliberations began at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The verdict was reached a little after noon. The trial began on Tuesday. 

According to police, Showalter, rode a bicycle into the bank's drive-thru lane, showed a gun to the teller and presented a letter. He made-off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Showalter, who was already in jail on unrelated drug charges, was charged a little more than a month after the robbery.

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) Jury selection is underway for the man accused of robbing a Bluefield, WV bank.

Nathaniel Showalter, 21, is charged in connection with the June 2014 robbery of the First Community Bank on Federal Street. Police say Showalter, rode a bicycle into the drive-thru lane, showed a gun to the teller and presented a letter. He made-off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Showalter was charged with the crime more than a month later. However, he was already in jail on unrelated drug charges out of Raleigh County.
