Bluefield Fire Department plans smoke detector drive

BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield Fire Department will hold its inaugural Smoke Detector Drive on September 21, 2015 at the Central Station located at 101 Bluefield Avenue.

“We are extremely excited about this event and we are eager to help our citizens,” shared Fire Chief Rick Cary.

The aim of the program is to improve safety through early detection within homes of residents in the city limits. Those households that do not have smoke detectors in place are encouraged to come to the Smoke Detector Drive to obtain them. Members of the fire department will also be available for questions and can assist individuals with information on existing detectors currently in place at their residence.

City of Bluefield fire fighters will also be at the Glenwood Retirement Village/Bluefield Daily Telegraph Senior Expo at the Brushfork Armory on October 1 to give away smoke detectors for city residents. They will also answer questions concerning fire prevention and safety.

Smoke detectors are a crucial part of early detection of fires. Having properly placed smoke detectors can reduce death, injury, and help with fast escape plans. For more information, please stop by the City of Bluefield Fire Department’s Central Station (101 Bluefield Avenue) or call 304.327.2401 ext. 8650.
