WV county board of education hacked by Islamic State supporter

WAYNE COUNTY, WV (WVVA) The West Virginia State Police and the FBI have launched an investigation after the Wayne County Board of Education website is hacked.

It happened in the early morning hours on Wednesday. When people tried to visit the website they were redirected to another site that promotes Islamic terrorism. 

Troopers say someone claiming to be part of the Islamic State is taking credit for the hack.

No specific threats have been made. Troopers remind the public "that this is simply a tactic used by groups such as the Islamic State in an attempt to instill fear in the general public."

Wayne, West Virginia – In the early morning hours of Wednesday September 2, 2015, the Wayne County Board of Education’s website was hacked by someone claiming to be part of the Islamic State. When internet users visit the Board of Education’s website they are actually re-directed to another site which promotes Islamic terrorism. The West Virginia State Police’s Digital Forensics Unit and the FBI are investigating this incident. This type of incident is occurring more often across the country. No specific threats have been made and the public should be reminded that this is simply a tactic used by groups such as the Islamic state in an attempt to instill fear in the general public.
