GREENBRIER COUNTY (WVVA) Two people are dead following a single-vehicle crash near Dawson, Greenbrier County.
According to Chief Deputy Bruce Slone with the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department, the wreck happened around 1 a.m. on Monday on Springdale Road. The vehicle was traveling south when the driver lost control and hit a large tree.
There were four people in the car. The driver, Derek M. Fitzwater, 19, of South Charleston, WV, and passenger Danny R. Fitzwater, 43, of Alderson, WV were killed in the crash. One passenger was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center and another was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries are unknown. The two deceased men were father and son.
Chief Deputy Slone says none of the victims were wearing a seat belt.
Slone says Sergeant J. J. Martin is the investigating officer. He was assisted by Sergeant G. R. Workman, Deputy Alex Workman and Deputy James DeSimone of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s office. J. W. Gilkeson of the West Virginia State Police also assisted in the investigation. Members of the Clintonvile and Smoot fire departments and Quinwood and Alderson EMS assisted in the call.
