Remembering WVVA icon Stan Sweet

Posted:

In September 2012, the WVVA family received a mighty blow. Beloved weatherman Stan Sweet passed away at the age of 85.

Sweet, a White Sulphur Springs native, enjoyed a lengthy career in show biz, appearing in television and film before coming to WVVA in the 1980s.

He was also a world quick draw champion, showcasing his firearm handling skills on national showcases such as 'Late Night with David Letterman.'

But it was Sweet's flashy wardrobe and unique delivery of the weather that have left him fondly remembered by thousands of viewers across the Two Virginias.

Great read:"Weatherman is champion fast-draw," The Free Lance-Star, December 5,1985

Sweet signed off from WVVA for the final time in 2006. His final on camera appearance happened in late-2011, while promoting his autobiography at a book signing in White Sulphur Springs.
