Concert benefits local boy's journey to walk

White Sulphur Springs (WVVA) What some people take for granted, 7 year-old Ladriane Soto and his family are fighting for.

"To make Ladriane be able to walk, I mean that is the joy of his life. He loves to walk, he absolutely loves it. He deserves to have a chance at one surgery that will last him possibly a lifetime," says Olimpia Soto, Ladriane's mom.

Part of that fight began with a benefit concert and charity event at the Rockin' Horse in White Sulphur Springs, with raffles, pony rides and plenty of music. The event included a performance by Cody Wickline, who says choosing to perform at Ladriane's benefit was an easy decision.

"I think being in my position, it's one of the beautiful aspects of it, that I can do stuff like this to help people. And that's really what music is all about, being able to touch people's lives," says Wickline.

Ladriane suffers from cerebral palsy, and the surgery to help him get back on his feet costs more than $17,000. But his family refuses to give up, and this event brought out community members filled with compassion for Ladriane and his family's journey.

"You can't ever imagine, I don't walk in her footsteps. I cannot imagine how hard it is. Just being an advocate for those children is hard, it seems like they never get their fair share, they always have to fight for what they need," says Sarah Patton, a local resident.

Proceeds from the event went to the Ladriane's Journey to Walk fund. His surgery is scheduled for the end of July.
