Woman arrested at McDowell County ATV resort for sexual assault of 13-year old

 (WVVA) A woman is arrested at a McDowell County ATV resort for the sexual assault of a juvenile family member.

According to Deputy J.D. Gills with the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, the investigation began on Wednesday when he responded to a disturbance call in Brushfork area.  Gills says the argument was over a 13-year-old girl who never returned home from school. Though the juvenile left home at 6:19 a.m. to walk to her bus stop, the child's guardian found out the she was marked absent that day

Dep. Gills, with the assistance of Concord University Police Officer D. Smith, was able to ping the juvenile's cell phone location at the Ashland ATV Resort near Crumpler, McDowell County. Senior Tpr. J.R. Coburn and Tpr. J.C Woods out of the Welch detachment of the West Virginia State Police were contacted and the child was found inside a rental cabin with an adult family member.

Melody Carver, 28, of Brushfork, WV is charged with third degree sexual assault, concealment of a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was arraigned on Thursday in McDowell County and bond was set at $25,000. Carver is currently being held in the McDowell County Holding Facility. 

The juvenile was returned back to her legal guardian.
