(WVVA) The following information was released by Mercer County Schools after special needs student at Melrose Elementary was injured by another student in her classroom.

On Wednesday, three children were in the classroom with their teacher. While attending the needs of one of three children, another child, suddenly and unexpectedly, injured the third child. We are troubled and very sorry that a child was injured. However, at this point in our investigation, there is no indication that anyone was negligent in this situation. For reasons of confidentiality, no further details will be given.
