Bluefield native and famed mathematician dies in crash

(WVVA) Bluefield native and famed mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr., 86, and his wife Alicia, 82 died on Saturday in a taxi crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.

According to media outlets, the couple were traveling in a taxi near Monroe Township around 4:30 p.m. when the crash happened. Police say the couple were ejected from the taxi and died at the scene. 

John Nash Jr. was the Senior Mathematician at Princeton University. He was the subject of the 2001 feature film 'A Beautiful Mind' staring Russell Crowe. 

Crowe tweeted the following Sunday morning:

Stunned...my heart goes out to John & Alicia & family. An amazing partnership. Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts.

Nash won the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1994 for his groundbreaking work in game theory. 

The crash remains under investigation.
