Electric transmission line installations to cause periodic lane closures on I-77/ I-81


WYTHE COUNTY, VA (WVVA) Drivers on Interstate 77/ 81 in Wythe Co. can expect periodic lane closures as Appalachian Electric Power (AEP) crews work to install overhead transmission lines in four locations.

VDOT officials say the work will be done from May 25-31. 

Two of the locations will be on I-77 between mile marker 31 and Exit 32. The other two locations will be on the I-81 overlap near mile marker 75 and Exit 81. There will be periodic traffic interruptions on Lee Highway, Chapman Road, and Factory Outlet Road as well.

The Virginia State Police (VSP) will help control traffic with "rolling road blocks."

Drivers in Wythe Co. can also expect delays next week on mile marker 85 (I-81) for sign repairs, Exit 72 southbound (I-81) for bridge repairs, and mile markers 27 and 30 southbound (I-77) for bridge repairs. 

There are also a couple of road closures to report in McDowell County,WV

Sections of Anawalt Bypass and Old 52 are washed out and a mud slide has been reported on Trestle Hollow Road.
