A Maryland man was arrested by Lewisburg Police early Saturday morning on Attempted Murder and Reckless Fleeing charges. At approximately 12:25 am , Sgt. D.B. Eggleston and Ptlm. J. T. Williams III were traveling on Rt. 60 when they observed a silver Toyota Corolla traveling at a high rate of speed. The officers turned around to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle turned onto Holt Lane. The vehicle was finally stopped at Bell Drive just off of Rt.219. Ptlm. Williams made contact with the driver, identified as Joshua Jerome Brown 19 ,of Baltimore Maryland. Both officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Mr. Brown then reached into the console and removed a package and stuck it into the front of his pants and reached for something in his waistband. Ptlm. Williams asked for Mr. Brown to give him the items he stuffed in his pants. He replied "no" and put the car in gear and took off at a high rate of speed as Ptlm. Williams was reaching inside the vehicle

Mr. Brown continued on Bell Drive at a very high rate of speed ending up on the dead end of South Jefferson Street. He pulled into a driveway at 612 S. Jefferson Street and officers were able to catch up to him. Mr. Brown backed up and almost struck the cruiser driven by Williams and Eggleston. Mr. Brown then drove across the yard heading north towards Jefferson Street. Ptlm. R.L. Crone who was responding to S. Jefferson Street had stopped in the street in front of 612 S. Jefferson Street. Officer Crone exited his vehicle as Mr. Brown was sitting in the yard. Brown then accelerated towards Ptlm. Crone's vehicle. Crone had to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit and Brown's vehicle struck Officer Crone's vehicle in the rear drivers side causing minimal damage but spinning the vehicle around. Ptl. Crone was not injured during this incident.

Brown was charged with one count of Attempted Murder and one count of Reckless Fleeing. He was remanded to the Southern Regional Jail in lieu of a $15,000.00 cash only bond. The investigation is continuing and further charges may be forthcoming.

Chief Tim Stover says Brown was able to get away that night, but after identifying him and getting a hold of him, Brown turned himself in later on Saturday.
