Former police chief Thomas Peal arrested on drunk driving charge following hit-and-run

Fayette County deputies arrest a former police chief relating to alleged drunk driving following a hit-and-run collision.

Thomas Peal of Fayetteville is accused of DUI and leaving the scene with property damage.

According to the Fayette County criminal complaint, Peal is accused of a hit-and-run collision with a Ford Focus on Summerlee Road in Oak Hill.

The complaint says several witnesses saw Peal drive away from the scene, before those witnesses reported the incident to Fayette County 911 dispatchers.

The complaint goes on to say that several officers located Peal inside his vehicle near Comfort Inn in Oak Hill, passed out in the vehicle in the middle of the road.

After officers approached him and asked Peal to step out for a sobriety test, he almost fell several times on his way to the front of the vehicle.

Peal reportedly refused a sobriety test and a breathalyzer test on several attempts.

Fayette County Sheriffs Department is investigating this case.

Peal was Chief of Police in the City of Mount Hope for nearly ten years, leaving the position earlier this year.
