Man arrested for DUI after crashing into railroad safety rails

Posted:

MULLENS, WV (WVVA) The intersection of Route 54 and Route 16 in Mullens has been reopened, but railroad workers are still on scene making repairs after an accident earlier Friday evening. According to Mullens Police Chief Ray Toler, a driver who was under the influence, ran the railroad crossing at the intersection and hit the safety rails around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The crash knocked out the power to the crossing, which is why Mullens Police and Fire had closed the intersection earlier.

Chief Toler says the person that caused the road to close has been charged with third offense DUI, and driving revoked for DUI. Chief Toler also says he may face charges from the rail road police for damages as well.
