Man is sentenced to 40 years for Bluefield murder

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) The man convicted of second degree murder for the death of a Montcalm resident receives the maximum sentence allowed.

Deantre Scaife, 32, previously entered into a plea agreement for the August 2012 shooting death of Derek Tabor, 23. Tabor was shot outside a home on Fourth Street in Bluefield. A friend took him to the Bluefield, WV Police Department. He later died at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Scaife was originally indicted on a first degree murder charge. He pled guilty to the lesser charge of second degree murder on April 15, 2015. In court on Thursday, Judge William Sadler sentenced Scaife to 40 years in prison with 750 days of time served.

David Reasby of Bluefield, WV was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Tabor's death in August 2013. Another man, Mitchell Antonio Watts, was originally charged with the murder of Derek Tabor but that case was dismissed.
